Research
A/Prof Ravenscroft is a committed advocate for medical research, equity, and early- and mid-career researchers. She is currently President of the National Association of Research Fellows (NARF) and a Member of the NHMRC Women In Health Science (WiHS) Committee. She was the inaugural Chair of the Harry Perkins Institute's EMCR Committee. She also served on the Executive of the Australian Academy of Science’s EMCR Forum (2018-2019) and has been an active committee member of the Australian Society of Medical Research and UWA Researchers’ Association.
National Association of Research Fellows
National Association of Research Fellows (NARF): Gina is president of the National Association of Research Fellows and through this role advocates for increased funding for biomedical research, meets with government officials, the CEOs, and staff of the NHMRC and MRFF, makes submissions on behalf of the sector to various consultations. As a strong advocate for medical research and a leading EMCR in Australia, Gina has also been invited to participate in round table discussions with the MRFF CEO Masha Somi around how best to support early- and mid-career researchers. A result of these round tables was the establishment of an MRFF stream for EMCR-led research proposals.

Other advocacy activities
Participating in Science Lands In Parliament, an ASMR-organised event held annually at the WA State Parliament. Gina has also met with the Research and Innovation Office of the WA Department of Health to advocate for greater investment in medical research and in particular for research funds that directly support early and mid-career researchers. As a beneficiary of the Department of Health’s “near-miss” schemes in the past, Gina is very passionate about ensuring this support continues and is strengthened. The Department of Health engaged Deloitte to consult with the sector around the Future Health Research and Innovation Fund and Gina was invited to provide input into this consultation.
Invited speaker at the launch of the WA Parliamentary Friends of Medical Research, 21st of March 2023 at the WA Parliament. Gina was invited by Dr Katrina Stratton MLA (Member for Nedlands) and founder of the parliamentary friends group to speak about medical research in WA and the difficulties faced by researchers, in particular early and mid-career researchers within the sector.
